This year marked the 6th annual Clay County Strawberry Festival in Florida. We went to this event this year and here is our honest review and whether or not we thought it was worth going.
Last weekend, we went to the Clay County Strawberry Festival. My husband and I love strawberries and we remember taking our kids to go pick them when they were little. We’d pick and pay for a gallon, but gosh, we probably picked another gallon and ate them right there in the field. It was so much fun! Back then, I would come home and make strawberry jam. Then I gave that out at the holidays to our friends and family. But, we had never been to a strawberry festival before and so we were looking forward to this event. We were not disappointed. There was strawberry everything you can think of. They had strawberry jelly, strawberry jam, salsa, shortbread, pies. There were even wine slushies and of course just plain old strawberries, but by the box!
You may have heard that Plant City is the best place in Florida for strawberries. Well, these strawberries are from Plant City, and they were so delicious.
What was there?
In addition to strawberries at the festival, there were lots of other great foods there too. Almost any kind of carnival food you can think of was there. I got some cotton candy. I can’t help it. I love the stuff. I’m just a big kid. They had the best strawberry shortbread and pies there too.
Okay, so enough about the food. They also had lots of other tents where people were selling various items. I bought a cute sun hat and my husband got a funny t-shirt. They even had stuff to buy for your pets. Pepper (my dog) got a great blanket to lay on.
Shows
There was great dog show put on by K9Frisbee of dogs jumping and catching Frisbees. That was very entertaining. I’ve never seen dogs that could jump like that.
They also had a great car show of vintage cars with some of the most beautiful cars and trucks from years and years ago. Those older body styles are just wonderful to look at and enjoyed by people of all ages. For the kiddos there was a hula hoop contest, a mechanical bull to ride on, a bounce house, pony rides, face painting, petting zoo, and lots more.

And just when you thought you’d pass out from all the activity, you can go and buy as many of those boxes of strawberries from Plant City as you like and take them home. I know we did. The strawberry festival was great. We were very glad we went and I certainly encourage you to as well if you live in the area.
Parking
The only thing I could think of that might have been done better was the parking. We arrived at 2:00 and they were sending people to the back of the field rather than filling in the parking spaces where people had left, which were closer to the entrance. This made for a lot of unnecessary walking and for anyone arriving in the afternoon hours made it a little bit harder. But this event is still young and I’m sure they’re working on improving that. And at any rate, I encourage you to go check out the Clay County Strawberry Festival and have a great time.
Final Opinion
All in all, it was a great festival and we are looking forward to going next year. It is definitely worth going to. Are you looking for more information on strawberries? Here’s an article of 10 surprising facts about Florida strawberries you might find interesting.
